One Root, Many Connected Words
Most Arabic words grow from a three-letter root. The root ن ص ر carries the idea of helping. Put it into a pattern and you get نَصَرَ: “he helped.” The root ك ت ب can become كَاتِب (writer) or مَكْتَب (a place connected to writing).
عَلِمَ · عِلْم · عَالِمKnew · knowledge · scholar.دَنَا · أَدْنَى · الدُّنْيَاCame near · nearer · the nearer life.
The root gives a shared direction of meaning; the pattern tells you the job the word is doing.
