The Ending Tells You Who Acted
Arabic past tense often keeps the root stable and changes the ending. فَتَحَ means “he opened”; فَتَحْتُ means “I opened”; فَتَحْنَا means “we opened”; and فَتَحُوا means “they opened.”
ـتُI did.ـنَاWe did.ـواThey did.
The root supplies the action; the ending tells you who completed it.
